LAHORE :The Punjab government has decided to introduce a modern dairy farming system inspired by Italy, focusing on global standards for milk and cheese production and distribution.An Italian dairy sector investment delegation met with Punjab’s Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Livestock Minister Ashiq Hussain. In the first phase, a pilot project with 1,000 buffaloes will be launched in Pakpattan, Muzaffargarh, and Jhang.The collaboration aims to enhance buffalo breeding, increase milk production, improve packaging, and meet international export standards. Advanced machinery will be introduced for milk cooling and preservation, and a comprehensive dairy policy will be formulated soon. Maryam Aurangzeb stated that after the olive sector, modern dairy farming will further accelerate Punjab’s agricultural revolution. The project will benefit small farmers and women in flood-affected areas, while 15,000 livestock cards and an 80-billion-rupee subsidy have already supported farmers and agriculture.She also emphasised that affordable tractors and agricultural machinery are helping Punjab’s agricultural sector thrive. The senior minister expressed gratitude to the Italian dairy sector investors for their visit and cooperation.Livestock Minister Ashiq Hussain briefed the Italian delegation about Punjab Chief Minister’s agricultural initiatives, highlighting Italy’s global reputation in agricultural and dairy production.
