Punjab gives Nadra one-week to introduce QR code for arms licences’ verification

LAHORE :The Punjab Home Department has directed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to issue QR code for online verification of weapons licences.Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal chaired a special meeting regarding verification of arms licenses. The meeting was attended by Special Home Secretary Fazlur Rehman, Additional Secretary Imran Hussain Ranjah and NADRA officials.During the meeting, the Home secretary gave NADRA a one-week deadline to add QR codes to weapon licences. The authority was also instructed to link all weapon licences to the respective individual’s ID card.

The commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab were also directed to add QR codes to all orders related to weapon licences.

Speaking on the occasion, Mengal stated that the verification process for weapon licences would help eliminate fake licences, ensuring transparency.

He emphasised that individuals involved in serious crimes are ineligible for weapon licenses.

Amendments are being made to the Arms Rules to facilitate citizens, and the rules for individual and business arms licences are being simplified for better understanding.
