KARACHI, Sep 09 (NNI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader in the Sindh Assembly Khurrum Sher Zaman in a press conference on Friday (September 9th) at Insaf House Karachi, raised concerns over the increasing incidents of street crimes in Karachi over the past 8 months of this current year.
Mr. Sher Zaman pointed out that during the last 8 months of this year, over 56,565 street crime incidents were reported from Karachi. Plus, a total of 58 people lost their lives for resisting street crimes and 269 others were wounded in such incidents.
So far for the month of September, there were 12 street crime killings, raising the the death toll to 70. Beasides not being safe on the streets of Karachi, the citizens of Karachi are also not safe within their homes, as more than 303 incidents of house robberies were reported from January to August this year. Moreover, the residents of Karachi were robbed of over 19,000 mobile phones, 1,487 cars and more than 35,000 motorcycles.
Mr. Sher Zaman considers that these incidents of street crimes and their related violence are atrocious and reflect the ineffectiveness of the Karachi Police force. If the Karachi Police cannot do its basic responsibility to protect the lives and property of the residents of Karachi, then a new force must be assembled from the people that live in this city.
