ISLAMABAD: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) conducted an auction for the establishment of cattle markets ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha festival. The auction witnessed varying degrees of success, with only two out of six cattle markets receiving successful bids.
The auction, organized by the DMA garnered limited interest from potential bidders, as four out of the six cattle markets failed to attract suitable offers. However, the Metropolitan Corporation remained optimistic about the remaining markets and expressed their determination to ensure a successful auction process.
Among the notable bids, the auction for 15 cattle markets concluded at a staggering price of 30 million rupees, underscoring the significance of this lucrative business opportunity. Similarly, the Singjani cattle market witnessed intense competition, resulting in a final bid of 10 million rupees.
In contrast, the markets of Bara Kahu, Sultana Foundation, Rawat, and Zia Masjid faced a disappointing lack of participation from interested contractors. Their uneventful auction reflected a disinterest among bidders, raising concerns for the authorities.
To address the unsuccessful auctions, the responsibility now rests with the Islamabad Administrator, who will make crucial decisions regarding the future course of action. Their decisions will determine the fate of the cattle markets in question.
The Metropolitan Corporation has set a timeline for the successful bidders, announcing that the cattle markets awarded to them will commence operations from June 18. This deadline will allow the contractors sufficient time to prepare the venues and ensure a smooth and efficient setup.
It is important to note that the provision of basic amenities such as electricity, water, and adequate space within the cattle markets falls under the responsibility of the contractors. They are expected to fulfill these obligations to facilitate a comfortable and conducive environment for both buyers and sellers.
Furthermore, the Metropolitan Corporation has established a fee structure for the cattle markets. Small animals will incur a fee of 250 rupees, while the fee for larger animals will be set at 500 rupees. This fee system aims to regulate the market and ensure fair and transparent transactions.
As the preparations for Eid-ul-Adha gain momentum, the Metropolitan Corporation remains committed to facilitating a successful and thriving cattle market experience for the residents of Islamabad.
