ISLAMABAD: In a significant development Wednesday, the Prime Minister’s Office has taken a decisive step by suggesting to terminate the deputation of Prof. Ikram Ali as the Director General of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE). The termination proposal comes in response to a series of concerning issues that have arisen during his tenure.

Prof. I. Ikram Ali, who was appointed as Director General on a deputation basis from the University of Arid Agriculture, Rawalpindi, has faced criticism for his lack of experience at the school and college level. Several allegations have been raised against him, prompting serious concerns about the smooth functioning of the FDE.

One of the major issues that led to the termination decision was Prof. Ali’s continuous absence from his office and avoidance of work duties. For nearly ten days, he has been unavailable, citing lame excuses, leading to chaos within the FDE. This absence has significantly impeded crucial projects, where delayed decisions could seriously jeopardize their success.

Furthermore, Prof. Ali’s decision to nominate Mr. Asif Iqbal Khan, Deputy Director General, for promotional training without any relevant post for promotion has also raised eyebrows. The Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training highlighted this as an instance of his questionable decision-making.

Adding to the list of concerns was the unauthorized assignment of the post of Deputy Director General to someone without the approval of the competent authority, which has further fueled dissatisfaction with his overall performance.

Taking all these issues into account, the Prime Minister’s Office has proposed the immediate termination of Prof. I. Ikram Ali’s deputation period as Director General of the Federal Directorate of Education. In his place, Mr. Amjad Ahmad, Joint Secretary (BS-20), will be given additional charge of the post of DG, FDE for a period of six months.

This move by the Prime Minister’s Office aims to address the pressing concerns and restore efficiency and accountability within the Federal Directorate of Education. The decision is now awaiting the kind approval of the Honorable Prime Minister.
