ISLAMABAD: In a significant diplomatic development, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov of the Russian Federation engaged in a productive telephone conversation Wednesday. The two leaders discussed various bilateral matters and explored avenues for further strengthening cooperation between their nations.

During the conversation, Foreign Minister Bhutto Zardari extended an invitation to his Russian counterpart to visit Pakistan, signifying the importance of nurturing diplomatic ties between the two countries.

One of the major topics of discussion was the Black Sea Grain Initiative (BSGI). Recognizing its significance in the global food supply chain and its potential impact on food inflation and food security, Foreign Minister Bhutto Zardari emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to find viable solutions. He particularly highlighted the importance of addressing the concerns of developing countries already facing economic challenges. Pakistan reaffirmed its support for international endeavors to restore the BSGI and urged all parties involved to engage in constructive dialogue.

The Foreign Minister informed Minister Lavrov about his previous discussions on the BSGI with the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Turkiye, the US Secretary of State, and the EU High Representative. In response, Foreign Minister Lavrov shared Russia’s perspective on the matter.

Both Foreign Ministers agreed to maintain close communication on the Black Sea Grain Initiative, indicating a shared commitment to finding a resolution and reviving the initiative.

This conversation signifies the growing importance of Pakistan-Russia relations and their shared responsibility in addressing global challenges related to food security and economic stability. It also highlights the willingness of both nations to engage in dialogue and find mutually beneficial solutions.
