Islamabad (Staff Reporter) Vice Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University, Professor Dr. Nasir Mehmood is taking various steps to improve the skills of teachers in order to further improve the quality of education. The four-day international capacity-building workshop started yesterday. On the first day of the workshop, resource person, Emeritus Professor of Alberta University Canada, Dr. Toh Swee Hein from Canada presented his paper on ‘Global Citizenship Education’ online. Workshop Organized by the Department of Early Childhood Education and Elementary Teacher Education in collaboration with the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization. Resource person on citizenship for overcoming fear and hatred, adopting non-violent solutions and building peace in the world. He stressed the need for education. He elaborated on strengthening the delivery mechanism of GCED programmes, teaching peace and conflict resolution. He said that the global consensus on education for peace and human rights. There is a need for unity of opinion. He also discussed the role of transformative education in UNESCO’s Future of Education Initiative. To prepare citizens equipped with the qualities of values, attitudes, knowledge, abilities and skills. The closing ceremony of the Rickshaw will be held on Friday, September 22.
