ISLAMABAD: In a swift and targeted military operation, Pakistan responded Wednesday to Iran’s airspace violation earlier this week. The precision strikes were carried out against terrorist hideouts in Iran’s Sistan-Balochistan province, targeting groups such as the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF).
Codenamed “Marg Bar Sarmachar,” the strikes were described as “highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision” by both the Foreign Office and the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to reports, some nine non-Iranian nationals, including men, women, and children, were reported killed in the early morning strikes, according to Iran’s official news agency, IRNA.
Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan had consistently shared concerns about safe havens for Pakistani-origin terrorists within Iran. Concrete evidence was reportedly provided to Iranian authorities.
Baloch emphasized that the strikes were executed based on credible intelligence, foreseeing large-scale terrorist activities against Pakistan by these groups.
ISPR disclosed that the strikes utilized various means, including killer drones, rockets, loitering munitions, and stand-off weapons. Maximum care was taken to avoid collateral damage.
Baloch asserted that the action demonstrated Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to protect its national security against all threats.
Despite the retaliatory strikes, Pakistan reiterated its respect for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Pakistan, as a responsible member of the international community, upholds the principles of the UN Charter, emphasising dialogue and cooperation. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani cut short international visits in response to the situation.
Baloch expressed Pakistan’s desire for peaceful relations with all regional countries, including Iran. Emphasis on the need for joint solutions and continued engagement. Iran condemned the attack, summoning Pakistan’s chargé d’affaires to explain and protest the strikes.
Responding to statements by the Indian External Affairs Ministry, Baloch hoped for understanding of Pakistan’s self-defense response. As the situation unfolds, concerns rise about regional stability, with diplomatic efforts crucial in preventing further escalation. The international community watches closely as tensions between Pakistan and Iran continue to evolve.
