Dateline Report
ISLAMABAD: In a united effort, parents and teachers across private and government educational institutions are appealing to the government to reconsider school timings in response to the biting cold and thick fog enveloping the federal capital.
Notably, schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) commence operations at 09:30 am, closing at 03:30 pm, with a similar schedule observed in Punjab. However, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PIERA) appear to have not addressed the legitimate concerns raised by parents.
Contrary to practices in provinces, both government and private educational institutions in Islamabad have chosen to open at 08:30 am and 08:00 am, respectively. This decision comes despite morning temperatures plummeting to 0 degrees or even below. The capital and its adjacent areas are additionally grappling with dense and persistent fog, intensifying the prevailing cold conditions.
As temperatures drop and fog thickens, parents and teachers are fervently urging the government to take decisive action. There is a growing demand for either the announcement of winter vacations lasting around 15 days or, at the very least, a revision of school timings. The primary concern is to shield children from potential health risks associated with the harsh winter weather, preventing them from succumbing to seasonal diseases.
The government finds itself under increasing pressure to respond to the collective plea from parents and educators, who are seeking a swift resolution to the issue of school timings amidst the current harsh winter conditions. As the debate unfolds, the well-being and health of students remain at the forefront of this impassioned call for action.
