ISLAMABAD: In a weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch Friday, reiterated the nation’s stance on its sovereignty, dismissing any foreign interference in its domestic affairs. Baloch addressed concerns raised by the US State Department regarding Pakistan’s recent general elections, emphasizing Pakistan’s democratic processes and mechanisms for dispute resolution.
When asked about a letter from US lawmakers urging caution in recognizing Pakistan’s new government due to alleged election fraud, Baloch declined to comment, stating it was an internal US communication. She assured that Pakistan is aware of the situation regarding four Pakistani nationals indicted in the US for supplying arms to the Houthis and is in contact with US authorities for further details.
Regarding former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s letter to the IMF, Baloch redirected inquiries to the Ministry of Finance, emphasizing their lead on IMF-related matters. Responding to recent remarks by India’s External Affairs Minister regarding a past “surgical” strike in Balakot, Baloch emphasized Pakistan’s history of resolute responses to Indian aggression, stressing the importance of maintaining peace in the region.
Baloch also addressed the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project, highlighting its significance for energy security and announcing the cabinet committee’s decision to resume work on the project within Pakistani territory. Additionally, she condemned Israel’s recent actions in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire and access to humanitarian aid.
In upcoming diplomatic engagements, Pakistan will host the 9th Pakistan-EU Political Dialogue and hold the 5th session of Bilateral Political Consultations with Canada, focusing on strategic engagement, counter-terrorism, and bilateral relations.
The briefing underscored Pakistan’s commitment to sovereignty, regional stability, and diplomatic engagement amidst international scrutiny and regional tensions.
