ISLAMABAD: The new children’s emergency room at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), managed by ChildLife Foundation, has treated 200,000 children since its establishment in August 2022. This milestone marks a major achievement in reducing child mortality rates in Pakistan, as the survival rate of critically ill children has notably increased.
Pakistan faces a significant challenge as approximately 1,000 children succumb to various illnesses every day, underscoring the urgent need to address high child mortality rates in the country. ChildLife Foundation’s approach focuses on enhancing emergency care to reduce child mortality rates by 50%.
Through a public-private partnership with the government, ChildLife transformed the children’s emergency room at PIMS, Islamabad, in August 2022. The initiative included an extensive overhaul of the infrastructure, with renovations creating a modern, efficient environment for medical care. ChildLife also assembled a skilled team of healthcare professionals and equipped the ER with advanced technology and a fully stocked pharmacy.
The revamped emergency room’s pharmacy maintains a 45-day supply of essential medicines, including life-saving drugs, ensuring a consistent availability of critical medications and improving the facility’s emergency response capabilities.
ChildLife’s impact extends beyond PIMS, Islamabad, with a scalable, cost-effective model operating in 313 hospitals nationwide, including emergency rooms and Telemedicine Satellite Centers. Serving over 10,000 children each month in the ER at PIMS, Islamabad, ChildLife provides care to children from various regions including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. ChildLife Foundation remains dedicated to advancing pediatric healthcare and protecting the well-being of children across Pakistan.
