WAH CANTT: The building Control Department of the Cantonment Board Wah (CBW) , during crackdown launched on residences being used for commercial purposes, sealed over 70 premises on Saturday in various commercial and residential areas of the garrison city.
According to an CBW spokesperson, on the instructions of Station Commander Brigadier Nadeem Sadiq, Cantonment Executive Officer Maria Jabeen, Additional Chief Executive Officer Ghulam Sabir, the crackdown was launched against those who are indulge in commercial business activities illegally on domestic properties evading taxes and loss to national kitty. The crackdown was launched against residential buildings being used for commercial purposes in Lalarukh, Lalazar, GT road and adjacent areas.
“Under Cantonment Act 1924 Sections 268-A, the owners would be notified to cease and refrain from any such business activities in these residential buildings”, Said Cantonment Executive Officer Maria Jabeen while briefing the newsmen about the crackdown launched in the garrison city. She said that as many as 423 residential premises have been identified by the building control department of the Cantonment Board Wah that are illegally used for commercial purposes, evading taxes. She said that 203 premises were identified in Lalarukh only, while 220 other premises were identified in Gulistan Colony, 9-F Market, Officer Colony, Laig Ali Chowk, 15-G Market, and Anwar Chowk. She added that under the law, the administrative body can seal residential plots and houses engaging in such activities. Responding to a question, she said that in accordance with the direction of the Director General Military Lands and Cantonments (DGML&C), action was taken against illegitimate shops and other commercial properties in residential areas.
