ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced the successful completion of the initial phase of the Iran Avenue project, which was earlier known as Margalla Road. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the city’s infrastructure development efforts.
In a recent development, the CDA has officially opened Iran Avenue to traffic. This move is expected to alleviate congestion and enhance connectivity in the area.

Spanning a distance of twelve and a half kilometers, the first phase of Iran Avenue is poised to facilitate smoother travel for commuters. The project, totaling a cost of 4 billion rupees, includes the construction of a crucial interchange, further streamlining transportation in the region.

Beginning at D-Chowk and traversing through Margalla Avenue, Iran Avenue culminates at Ellysee Interchange and Iqbal Avenue, providing residents with improved access to key areas of the city. Notably, the proximity to GT Road enables swift travel to Ellysee from Iran Avenue, benefitting local residents and commuters alike.

Residents of Shah Allah Ditta, Sector 13, 14, and 15 are expected to reap the rewards of enhanced connectivity and improved infrastructure resulting from the Iran Avenue project.

Looking ahead, the second phase of the project aims to extend the road up to Colonel Sher Khan Road, spanning a distance of seven kilometers. Anticipated to commence within the next three months, this phase underscores the commitment to further bolstering Islamabad’s transportation network.

The rechristening of Iran Avenue, formerly known as Ellysee Avenue, coincided with the recent visit of the Iranian President, highlighting the project’s regional significance and collaboration.

Authorities at the CDA expressed optimism about the project’s impact on the city’s development trajectory, emphasizing its role in enhancing urban connectivity and fostering economic growth.
