ISLAMABAD (Dateline News) The government of Pakistan has decided to install a firewall to control “unwanted messages” on social media. It is learnt that the internet service providers have agreed to the government proposal to install a firewall.

It will have special feature called “deep packet inspection”.

According to sources, the deep packet inspection will be able to see up to Layer 7 of data. It can filter data, while firewall can block data at the IP level instead of at the application level.

They said that the firewall will identify propaganda points on social media and the firewall will block them and IDs from where the matter is uploaded.

The firewall will be installed on the internet service provider companies and the cost will be shared by the government and the companies.

Sources said the internet service providers have agreed to the PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) proposal.

On the other hand, the IT Ministry is of the opinion that internet service providers are bound to stop illegal content, while the installation of firewall is the jurisdiction of the PTA.

But PTA is reluctant to give opinion regarding the installation of firewall.
