KARACHI: In a significant move aimed at curbing the menace of human trafficking, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, has issued stringent directives to tackle the issue head-on.
IG Sindh has mandated rigorous action against human trafficking and the organized groups perpetrating this crime. He emphasized the need for a no-tolerance policy towards these activities, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Properties, whether buildings or houses, found to be utilized for human trafficking will face severe repercussions. An FIR will be registered against the owners of such properties, and they will be subjected to strict legal actions, said Memon. He however added this measure aims to deter property owners from allowing their premises to be used for illegal activities.
AIG Operations CPO has dispatched letters to all Additional IGs, DIGs, and SSPs across the province. These letters outline the urgent need for concerted efforts to combat human trafficking and related organized crimes within their respective jurisdictions.
All police officers are instructed to enforce strict legal actions within their respective jurisdictions against any form of organized human trafficking or associated crimes. The directive underscores the importance of proactive measures to prevent and dismantle human trafficking networks.
Officers are required to register FIRs against individuals involved in human trafficking, as well as their patrons and facilitators. This step aims to ensure that all participants in the crime are held accountable and face the full force of the law.
Complaints have been received regarding organized crimes and activities, such as begging and brothels, facilitated through human trafficking. The IG emphasized the need to address these activities promptly and effectively to safeguard vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
The directive also notes that failure to take action against these crimes will be perceived as tacit support for criminal activities. Officers are urged to act decisively to prevent any impression of complicity or negligence in addressing human trafficking.
