Lahore:Following the directive of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police continues its operations to prevent smog and protect environment. In the last 24 hours, during a smog crackdown in various districts including Lahore, 49 cases were registered, and 18 individuals were arrested. A total of 641 people were fined more than 1.2 million rupees, and 151 individuals were issued warnings. Punjab Police spokesperson said that violations included 9 cases of crop residue burning, 556 cases of vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 3 industrial activities, 37 brick kiln violations, and 5 other offenses. So far this year, a total of 3,168 offenders have been arrested in the anti-smog crackdown, with 2,539 cases registered against them. A total of 34,427 people have been fined more than 86 million rupees, and 6,159 individuals have received warnings. Spokesperson further said that violations as follows: 1,745 cases of crop residue burning, 30,623 cases of excessively polluting vehicles, 333 industrial activities, 1,240 brick kiln violations, and 297 other infractions. In the last 24 hours, challans were issued to 6,793 vehicles emitting excessive smoke, with 698 vehicles impounded at police stations. This year, a total of 794,310 vehicles emitting excessive smoke were challaned, 164,781 vehicles were impounded, and 10,033 vehicles had their fitness certificates suspended. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed a more vigorous anti-smog crackdown on highways, industrial areas, agricultural zones, and other locations, emphasizing zero tolerance for violations of smog SOPs, with no delays in taking strict action against those responsible.
