ISLAMABAD:Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, ensured the peaceful observance of 9th and 10th Muharram by deploying over 5,800 personnel under a meticulously crafted seven-layer security strategy.A total of 293 religious gatherings, including 250 Majalis and 79 processions, were secured across the federal capital during the two days. The operation was led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who also utilized advanced surveillance tools including drones and aerial monitoring to oversee the arrangements.A public relations officer told APP on Monday that on 9th Muharram, Islamabad Police deployed over 5,800 personnel to provide security for 113 Majalis and 36 processions held at various locations in the city. IGP Rizvi personally remained in the field, visiting entry points and supervising the deployment alongside senior officers. He said rooftop snipers were positioned at sensitive sites, walk-through gates and scanners were installed at entry points, and CTD teams, Rangers, district police, female officers, and volunteers were deployed at designated locations. The IG Rizvi also conducted physical inspections of mourners’ checking areas. He said on 10th Muharram, around 4,000 personnel were deployed to secure 137 Majalis and 43 processions, while IGP Rizvi conducted aerial surveillance from a police helicopter to ensure real-time monitoring and coordination. He said Islamabad Police used its own surveillance drones for aerial monitoring, while all unauthorized drone activity was strictly banned. Mobile command units and surveillance vans remained active, while the Safe City Command Centre provided uninterrupted digital monitoring. He said the Bomb Disposal Squad thoroughly cleared procession routes using advanced robotics and detection equipment. Over 500 traffic police personnel enforced a comprehensive traffic diversion plan and ensured smooth vehicular movement, with parking restrictions near processions.IGP Rizvi appreciated the performance of all law enforcement units and thanked the Islamabad administration, Pakistan Army, and Rangers for their support. He reiterated that maintaining peace and protecting citizens during religious gatherings remains the top priority of Islamabad Police.
