Lahore:Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, stated that no form of blackmail will be tolerated when it comes to safeguarding the lives of school children. He emphasized that driving without a valid license is tantamount to inviting death and accidents. Dr. Usman Anwar warned that driving without a license is essentially a “license to kill,” which no country in the world grants. He said that strikes cannot be justified if school vans overturn, innocent children die, and no one is held accountable. Such behavior has no place in a civilized society. The IG further stated that parents have been repeatedly demanding reforms in this system, and it is therefore essential to support positive measures taken on this critical public safety issue. He clarified that protecting citizens’ lives and property is the foremost responsibility of Punjab Police, and this duty will continue to be carried out regardless of any pressure or strike. Dr. Usman Anwar added that a grace period is being provided, but if vehicles are kept off the road, they will not be allowed to operate and will be seized. Since this concerns the lives of people and children, responsibility must be exercised. The IG concluded that there is no option but to enforce the law, and the zero-tolerance policy will continue unabated.
