ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi on Wednesday visited the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) at National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) headquarters and was briefed on disaster early warning systems, technology ecosystem, digital portals, and operational dashboards.
Earlier, Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, accompanied by senior officers, received the minister at the NEOC at NDMA headquarters.
The visit focused on exposition of Pakistan’s disaster preparedness mechanisms, early warning systems and the national and global disaster risk outlook for 2026.
Chairman NDMA, Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, highlighted the NDMA’s role as the lead national coordinating body for disaster management, with emphasis on preparedness, anticipatory action, and whole-of-government coordination.
The briefings included Lens Pakistan 2026, outlining seasonal hazard patterns and preparedness priorities, followed by the Global Disaster Lens 2026 and Global Disaster Calendar. NDMA’s Global Disaster App and key national initiatives for early warning dissemination, risk communication, academic liaisons and technology driven disaster management were also presented.The minister appreciated the NDMA’s integrated approach to disaster risk reduction and its focus on innovation, inter-agency coordination, and evidence-based planning. In his remarks, he commended NDMA’s efforts to enhance national preparedness and stressed the importance of proactive planning, robust early warning systems, and effective communication to mitigate disaster impacts amid increasing climate risks. He also suggested the inclusion of disaster preparedness in civil defense and chalking out joint strategy of courses through Civil Defense Academy. He also reiterated the capital disaster management regime under the supervision of NDMA.The interior minister also visited NDMA’s Centre of Excellence for Climate Change and Disaster Management (C2DM), reviewing its role in training, research, and capacity development. The visit concluded with the presentation of a souvenir and a group photograph, reaffirming the commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s disaster resilience through institutional strengthening and sustained preparedness efforts.
