ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is set to launch first phase of blockchain-based degree attestation system in June 2026 to ease the attestation process and make it more secure and accessible online.According to documents available with Wealth Pakistan, the HEC has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to enhance transparency, efficiency, and service delivery in the degree attestation and equivalence processes.The new system, currently under development, will introduce a secure and robust blockchain-based framework designed to integrate and connect academic records of all universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) on a centralized platform.The initiative aims to eliminate the need for applicants to visit universities in person for verification and attestation.Under the proposed system, universities and HEIs will be provided with dedicated dashboards enabling them to securely verify and validate applicants’ academic data. Once verification is completed at the university level, the cases will automatically be forwarded to the HEC for further processing.Upon the HEC’s verification and attestation, the students’ academic records will be stored in the form of tamper-proof, verifiable digital credentials on the blockchain. The students will have direct access to their academic achievements in digital form, which can be securely shared and validated anytime, anywhere, by employers, institutions, or relevant authorities.The blockchain framework is expected to significantly reduce fraud, document forgery, and verification delays while ensuring data integrity, immutability, and real-time credential authentication.
