LAHORE, :Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited Gaddafi Stadium to witness and encourage players during the opening match of the Pakistan Super League, here on Thursday.Upon her arrival, she was warmly received by Interior Minister and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and other officials.
During the visit, the Chief Minister met owners of all participating teams, extended her best wishes, and interacted with both local and international players, appreciating their dedication to the game. She was introduced to players of Hyderabad Kings and Lahore Qalandars and joined them for a group photograph.
The CM paid tribute to foreign players participating in the league and commended the organizers for successfully hosting the tournament despite challenging circumstances. She expressed optimism about Pakistan’s potential to emerge as a cricketing superpower and highlighted the unifying role of sports.During the event, she also met legendary cricketer Wasim Akram, who brought the PSL trophy onto the field. She remarked that although many fans could not be physically present in the stadium, their passion and connection with cricket remained strong.
Emphasising peace and youth engagement, the chief minister said that the government is committed to promoting sports over conflict, adding that young people should hold bats and balls in their hands rather than weapons.
