ISLAMABAD:Ahead of the monsoon season, the district administration has started pre-monsoon measures, with a review meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon to assess preparedness and ensure smooth drainage during expected rains. The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner General and all Assistant Commissioners. Officials shared updates on ongoing work being carried out across the city under the monsoon plan.During the briefing, participants were informed that a city-wide drain cleaning drive is in progress. Work is being carried out on nullahs and waterways to remove waste and ensure uninterrupted water flow. The administration is also removing encroachments built around streams and drains to clear natural pathways and reduce the risk of water accumulation.Officials presented an inspection report on manholes across the city. The report highlighted the current condition of manholes and identified areas where repairs or maintenance are required. The meeting also reviewed reports on low-lying areas that are vulnerable to waterlogging during heavy rainfall. The Deputy Commissioner directed officers to provide details of areas that were affected during last year’s monsoon. The aim is to take targeted measures in those locations to avoid repeat situations this year.Speaking during the meeting, DC Irfan Memon said that the purpose of the ongoing campaign is to improve the drainage system and support the smooth flow of rainwater during the monsoon. He added that the cleaning drive will continue for the next few days to cover all major and minor drains across the city. The Deputy Commissioner further stated that the administration is focusing on early preparedness to handle any emergency situation during the monsoon season. He directed all departments to remain alert and ensure coordination.
