ISLAMABAD:Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Wednesday approved large-scale new policies to ensure transparency and accountability in the National Highway Authority (NHA).Taking strict notice of heavy expenditures under the guise of maintenance, the minister made it clear that any form of corruption under the cover of repair work will not be tolerated, said a press release.Aleem Khan directed the Chairman NHA to immediately formulate a comprehensive and integrated plan for institutional reforms.He stated that while efforts are being made to save every penny, it is unacceptable that funds are being misused at lower levels.Therefore, any financial irregularity or corruption at any level will not be accepted. He further instructed NHA to hire competent, capable and honest executives from the private sector to improve the Institution’s performance. 0
Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized the need to complete pending inquiries promptly, ensure full accountability of utilized funds and implement a strict monitoring system.Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan also directed on-site inspections of maintenance work, the establishment of an effective check-and-balance system and the introduction of third-party evaluations to ensure transparency.He ordered the immediate resolution of construction-related complaints on the Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M-3), stating that responsibility must be clearly fixed in case of any deficiencies in developmental projects.During the NHA meeting, concerns related to the Lyari Expressway were also reviewed and clear instructions were issued to the relevant authorities.Abdul Aleem Khan reaffirmed his commitment that hard-earned NHA resources will not be wasted and that an effective, transparent and accountable system will be introduced in the department.
