ISLAMABAD:Inspector General of National Highways and Motorway Police Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry on Tuesday chaired the monthly regional conference of the force, reviewing overall performance of various zones across the country and directing enhanced focus on road safety and operational efficiency.
The conference, held in Islamabad, was attended virtually by Additional Inspectors General, Deputy Inspectors General and Superintendents of Police from different zones.The participants discussed traffic management, operational matters and ongoing road safety initiatives.Addressing the meeting, the IG emphasized strict implementation of austerity measures and efficient fuel utilization in view of the prevailing global and regional situation.He also stressed the need to further enhance professional capacity and skills of officers to improve the overall performance of the Motorway Police.Highlighting the force’s mandate, Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry said protection of life and property of citizens on national highways remained the top priority. He directed effective enforcement of revised speed limits on highways, as notified by the government.The IG underscored the importance of continued awareness campaigns on road safety, particularly focusing on the dangers of drowsy driving and promotion of safe driving practices among motorists.He further directed officials to take effective measures against the burning of crop residues (stubble burning) along highways, calling for awareness drives to mitigate environmental hazards.The meeting was also instructed to ensure full and effective implementation of the Axle Load Control Regime (ALCR) to regulate overloading and protect road infrastructure.At the conclusion of the conference, participants reaffirmed their commitment to perform duties with greater dedication to enhance road safety and ensure protection of citizens across the national highway network.
