Lahore:Under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Drug-Free Punjab” vision, vigorous and effective operations against narcotics are ongoing across the province. On the instructions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, Punjab Police’s crackdown against major drug dealers and smugglers is continuously underway.Punjab Police spokesperson said that so far this year, 15,453 drug dealers have been arrested across the province, while 15,535 cases have been registered. During the operations, 8,434 kilograms of charas, 935 kilograms of heroin, 459 kilograms of ice, 488 kilograms of opium and more than 219,000 litres of liquor have been recovered from drug dealers.Effective operations were also carried out against narcotics in the provincial capital Lahore, where 1,852 drug dealers were arrested this year, while 1,803 cases were registered. In Lahore, 630 kilograms of charas, 68 kilograms of heroin, 157 kilograms of ice, 6 kilograms of opium and 10,777 litres of liquor were recovered from drug dealers.IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, while issuing instructions, said that all accused involved in the drug supply chain should be brought to justice and awarded strict punishments. He further directed that operations against individuals involved in drug selling around educational institutions and hostels should be further intensified, while strict action should also be taken against elements involved in online buying and selling of drugs.
