27th Annual General Meeting of Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) Held

ISLAMABAD, Sep 06 (NNI): The floodwater has wreaked havoc after the Manchar Lake in Sindh was breached again as it has entered the nearby Sehwan airport and completely inundated several villages, leaving the people stranded and completely cut off from their surrounding areas.
There is water everywhere in Vahar, the ancestral union council of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, following the breach which was made at the site of RD 52.
According to the eyewitnesses, there was four to five feet of water at the airport. Similarly, Dadu-Hyderabad section of the Indus Highway is also under floodwater. The administration, on the other hand, has yet to come to the rescue of flood victims. The situation has not improved much in south Punjab where, too, flood affectees are awaiting government’s help, and only philanthropists and charity organisations were assisting those displaced by floods.
Earlier on Monday, despite breach caused to the Manchar Lake, the water level in the lake, instead of dropping, had gone further up so much so that now it had entered over 50 surrounding villages located in two union councils and had even reached close to the Indus Highway.
Sources in the irrigation department as well as in the district administration said that when the breach was caused at the site of Bagh-e-Yousaf, the water level was 23-feet high, which after 11 hours rose to 25-feet.
Sources further disclosed that the authorities had also shelved their plans to cause two more breaches in the lake following rise in water level in the River Indus.
Today, they added, water level in the river would be monitored, and that the decision to cause more breaches depended on the water level in the mighty Indus. NNI
