DRAP CEO running Pharma business in Pakistan, abroad in violation of law

ISLAMABAD: CEO Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), Asim Rauf has been accused of allegedly ‘spearheadijg’ a Pharmaceutical business in Pakistan and Egypt at a time, it was learnt.
Mr.Rauf has been blamed for building two pharmaceutical factories in Lahore’s Sunder Industrial Estate and Al Nasr in the outskirts of Egyptuan Capital Cario.The Pakistan Young Pharmacist Association in a letter to Prime Minister of Pakistan revealed that DRAP most powerful supremo has established two pharna industries same time in Pakistan and abroad in the name of M/s Zeta Pharmaceuticals having NTN 3775049-6). In Pakistan, his alleged factory was set up at Plot Number 494-A, Sundar Industrial Estate, Lahore costing millions.
However, PYPA disclosed that Mr. Asim Rauf built another Pharma factory in Egypt (M/s Zeta Pharma 36 Al Sheikh Mohammed Al Nadi St., Off Mostafa El Nahaas St. 6th District. Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt. Fax: +2-022715583) costing Rs 700 million. When contacted, Asim Rauf brushed aside all the allegation and said a particular group has launched a dirty campaign to malign him.
The Association pointed out that according to Section 18 of DRAP ACT ‘No person shall be appointed as CEO, Director, consultant, officer or employee of the authority of be or she has any financial or professional conflict of Interest. Or No person shall of member if the board or director if he has immediate family members (parrejt, chuld, sibling or spouse) as senior officials or owners of concerns dealing in therapeutic goods. The PYPA says at first, Zeta Pharmaceutical was established in the name of Asim Rauf brother but latter transferred to his father in law that is contravention to drug law. .
On rejoining of Ministry of Health Mr. Asim Rauf was appointed Federal Drug Inspector Sundar Industrial Estate Lahore in 2009. Mr. Asim purchased plot at Sundar Industrial Estate in year 2010 and constructed pharma factory costing millions of rupees
The letter disclosed that earlier Mr. Amer Wali Rauf (real Brother of Mr. Asim Rauf) was the owner in partnership concern. Mr. Asim Rauf conducted all the inspections of M/s Zeta Pharmaceuticals himself since 2010 till his posting to Islamabad as Director QA.
Latter the factory transferred to allegedly father in law of CEO DRAP.
