PESHAWAR: All Primary Teachers Association (APTA) announced to close of all primary schools from tomorrow after a baton charge and tear gas shelling on protesters from Peshawar police on Thursday.
The police took the action against the teachers when their negotiations failed with the government to fulfil the demands.
The Peshawar police used tear gas shelling and baton charge the protesting teachers in front of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly. The police also tried to terrify the protesters with heavy aerial firing.
In a response to the brutal action of police against the peaceful protesting teachers, they used stone pelting against the police.
Aziz Ullah, Provincial President of the APTA said that the protesters will not go back until their demands are fulfilled. He said those who used tear gas shelling and firing at teachers must answer.
The protesting teachers of APTA sat on the sides of the assembly and announced to spend the night on the road while female teachers will join their protest from tomorrow.
Peshawar police have arrested around 150 protesting teachers till filing this report and have given orders to arrest every demonstrator who will try to come to the GT Road.
The Peshawar police have also entered the Government Higher Secondary School City No 1 and arrested the teachers who tried to come out to the school gate.
In the clash, two policemen as well as two teachers were hurt and have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar for treatment.
