ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that Pakistan and Britain must work together to combat climate change.
He said this while talking to British Minister of State for South Asia and Commonwealth Lord Tariq Ahmed who called on the minister in Islamabad on Friday. He was accompanied by British High Commissioner Christian Turner on the occasion.
Both the dignities discussed matters of mutual interest including Pakistan-UK bilateral relations and regional and international affairs.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto was informed by Lord Tariq Ahmed about the additional aid of £ 10 million from the British government.
Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto thanked the United Kingdom for the total aid of more than £ 26 million, including additional aid to flood-affected people. Bhutto also appreciated the role of the Pakistani community living in the UK.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto said both countries have historical ties. “A further increase in trade relations between Pakistan and Britain is the need of the hour”, he added.
Meanwhile, a group of Chinese experts called on the foreign minister in Islamabad.
The group was consisting of disaster management and flood control experts who were on Pakistan’s visit to prepare an assessment report on flood damage.
China’s expert group briefed Bilawal Bhutto Zardari about the action plan.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appreciating the plan said the final assessment of the damages caused by the flood will help in the recovery operation. “Pakistan is grateful to China for its assistance to flood-affected people”, he added.
Meanwhile, a meeting of PPP members of the federal cabinet was held under the chair of the PPPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.
Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar, Khurshid Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sardar Saleem Haider, Faisal Karim Kundi and Nawabzada Iftikhar Ahmad Khan Babar attended the meeting.
Shahadat Awan, Sajid Turi, Syed Murtaza Ahmed, Ehsan Mazari, Abid Bhio, Raza Rabbani Khar, Tasneem Qureshi, Mahesh Malani, Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha and Maher Irshad Sial also participated in the meeting.
PPP Chairman was briefed by the members about the performance of their departments.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari instructed the federal cabinet to organize open courts across the country to address public issues. NNI
