KARAChi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has vowed to make Karachi a liveable city and dubbed the October 23 local government elections a milestone for the Karachi Rights Movement.
The JI leader expressed these views at convention of candidates for the local government polls, held at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, here on Monday. Earlier in the day, the JI leader also addressed a press conference.
Speaking on the two occasions, he highlighted that the JI has already achieved a lot for Karachi without having any elected position. He added that the JI, if elected, would be able to serve the city in a much more significant manner.
He also reiterated demands for the Election Commission of Pakistan to take notice of the undemocratic and illegal conduct on part of the PPP government in Sindh, including media campaign worth tens of millions of rupees on the expense of taxpayers money and attempts to evade ECP and court orders by trying to get the polls postpone.
He declared that some polling stations in Karachi are sensitive while the others are more sensitive so the army and Rangers personnel should be deployed on all of them.
He also demanded of the ECP to bluntly reject all requests by the PPP to further delay the polls and issue a policy statement in this regard. The ECP was also demanded to make a clear announcement over the date of elections and deployment of the army and Rangers.
The JI leader said public opinion in Karachi is already inclined towards the JI and expressed his hope that the party will clean sweep in the local bodies polls, whereas the impacts of the results would affect the entire country. The JI will come forward as an effective force as a result of the polls, he opined.
He said that at one hand, the PPP government in Sindh was trying hard to get the polls delayed, while on the other the PPP ministers were falsely accusing Karachiites for the failure of the government. He said that the JI held the ruling parties responsible for their failure to deliver during their respective tenures.

Talking about the recent by-polls, he said that the slims turn out in the elections depicted the mood of Karachiites that they want local bodies elections. The slim turn out showed that the masses don’t believe the melodrama being played in Islamabad in the name of politics.
He urged political workers belonging to any political party to vote for the JI in the Oct 23 elections for the sake of Karachi and future of Karachiites. He further said that the elected representatives, belonging to JI, would continue the journey of progress and development in Karachi from the same point, it was discontinued.
Engr Naeemur Rehman also highlighted that the JI would hold test under Bano Qabil program on Oct 19 whereas the eligible youth would not only be equipped with required set of skills but they will also be facilitated in their quest for jobs.
JI leader Raja Arif Sultan also addressed the convention and issued directions for polling agents in connection with the election day.- NNI
