ISLAMABAD: In response to the US-India Joint Statement issued on June 22, 2023, Pakistan has criticized the reference made to Pakistan, considering it unwarranted, one-sided, and misleading. The Pakistani spokesperson expressed surprise at the inclusion of the reference despite Pakistan’s close counterterrorism cooperation with the United States.

Pakistan emphasized the sacrifices it has made in the fight against terrorism, highlighting the exemplary dedication of its law enforcement agencies and armed forces. The spokesperson emphasized that the people of Pakistan are the true heroes in this fight. Pakistan also noted that the international community has consistently recognized its efforts and sacrifices in combating terrorism, stressing that a concerted and cooperative approach is crucial to defeating this global menace.

Regarding India, Pakistan accused its neighbor of being a state sponsor of terrorism and using the terrorism issue to divert attention from the alleged brutal repression of Kashmiri people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the maltreatment of minorities. Pakistan argued that India is ill-placed to cast aspersions on its fight against terrorism.

Pakistan further criticized the US-India Joint Statement for failing to address the key sources of tension and instability in the region and neglecting the grave human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK). Pakistan viewed this omission as an abdication of international responsibility.

Expressing deep concern, Pakistan objected to the planned transfer of advanced military technologies to India, claiming that such actions accentuate the military imbalance in the region and undermine strategic stability. Pakistan argued that these steps hinder the objective of achieving lasting peace in South Asia.

The spokesperson called upon international partners to adopt a holistic and objective view of peace and security issues in South Asia, urging them to refrain from endorsing one-sided positions.

Pakistan’s response highlights its dissatisfaction with the US-India Joint Statement and underscores the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India, particularly in relation to terrorism, Kashmir, and regional stability. The statement also reflects Pakistan’s desire for international support and understanding of its perspective on these matters.
