ISLAMABAD: In response to mounting media inquiries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has issued a statement concerning the situation of Pakistani nationals who have been detained in Benghazi, Libya. The Spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, conveyed the actions and efforts being undertaken to address the matter.
According to the statement, at the direction of the Foreign Minister, a high-level delegation led by the Charge d’affaires in Tripoli, Mr. Ashiq Ali, personally visited the detention center in Benghazi to meet with the Pakistani detainees. This visit aimed to assess their conditions and ensure that their basic needs are being met, including the provision of food and essential necessities.
Recognizing the importance of medical attention, the Pakistani Mission has also collaborated closely with the United Nations medical team to provide routine medical check-ups and access to essential medicines for the detained Pakistani nationals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been actively coordinating efforts with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to expedite the repatriation of the detainees back to Pakistan. Ensuring the safe return of their citizens has been of paramount concern for the government, especially given the ongoing security challenges and political instability in Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city.
The situation in Benghazi has drawn significant global concern, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured the public and media that they are closely monitoring the developments. The government remains committed to taking all necessary measures to safeguard the rights and well-being of the detained Pakistani nationals.
The safety and well-being of foreigners detained in Libya have been an important matter, and the Pakistani government’s efforts in collaboration with international bodies reflect their dedication to addressing this critical issue.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to provide updates as the situation unfolds and pledges to do everything within their power to ensure the swift and safe return of the detained Pakistani nationals to their homeland.
