ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, concerned citizens and education activists have raised serious allegations against the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), Islamabad, for illegally transferring teaching staff to administrative posts within the organization. The issue has come to the forefront as it directly impacts the quality of education and the future of the nation’s children.
The matter was brought to the attention of Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Shareef in a formal letter, expressing deep concern over the detrimental impact of deploying teaching staff on administrative roles. The letter highlights that this practice is weakening the education sector rather than strengthening it, as the government should ideally be doing. The education of the nation’s children is of paramount importance, and this misuse of teaching resources is a cause for great distress.
Furthermore, the concerned citizens pointed out that all teachers working in administrative posts at FDE are availing Teaching Allowance as well, which is a violation of Finance Division’s O.M. No.F.17(2)R-2/2006 dated 09-02-2007. According to the said finance division order, “Teaching Allowance is not admissible to teachers unless they return back and are deployed exclusively on teaching duties.”
In addition to this, the activists referred to the Federal Government Act No.XXIV of 2012 dated 24-12-2012, which emphasizes “Free and Compulsory Education.” According to Clause No.3 of this act, “No teacher be deployed for any non-educational purposes other than the population census, disaster relief duties, or duties relating to elections.”
To bring to light the extent of the issue, the letter also listed several names of teachers who are currently holding permanent teaching positions in schools while simultaneously serving on temporary administrative posts at FDE headquarters. This dual responsibility not only affects the teachers’ ability to focus on their primary teaching duties but also raises concerns about the fair distribution of resources and teaching talent.
In light of the seriousness of the matter, the letter urgently calls for strict action against the illegal deployment of teaching faculty on administrative posts in FDE. The concerned citizens demand that the government rectify this situation and take appropriate measures to ensure the proper utilization of teaching staff for the betterment of education in the country.
It remains to be seen how Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Shareef and the relevant authorities respond to this plea and what actions will be taken to address the concerns raised regarding the education sector’s well-being.
