RAWALPINDI: General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has expressed concerns over the involvement of Afghan nationals in terrorist incidents in Pakistan, stating that it is detrimental to regional peace and stability, as it deviates from the Doha Peace Agreement by the interim Afghan Government.
Army Chief paid a visit to Peshawar on Monday, where he laid a floral wreath at Yaadgar-e-Shuhada at Fort Bala Hisar, the Headquarters of Frontier Corps Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – North, and offered Fatiha as a mark of respect.
During his visit, COAS engaged in an interactive session with tribal elders from the Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as notable figures from various backgrounds. He paid tribute to the courageous and resilient tribes of Pakistan, applauding their unwavering support to the Security Forces in combating terrorism.
COAS emphasized that Pakistan is successfully countering terrorism, thanks to the nation’s unflinching resolve, and enabling a stable and peaceful environment for socio-economic development in the area.
COAS pledged that Pakistan will spare no effort in dismantling terrorist networks and protecting its citizens.
Tribal elders reassured their commitment to stand with the state during challenging times and affirmed that the ideology of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) will never be acceptable to any tribe.
COAS also highlighted the potential of the Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) and the ongoing efforts in promoting socio-economic growth under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
Additionally, he pointed out that KPK province possesses substantial reserves of Mines & Minerals and scenic areas for tourism, which will positively impact the area’s future.
General Syed Asim Munir assured the tribal brothers that the Pakistan Army will never abandon them, considering the countless sacrifices they have made for the peace and prosperity of the motherland. He emphasized the commitment of Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, and other Law Enforcement Agencies in their fight against terrorism until its complete elimination.
Regarding recent increases in terrorism, COAS asserted that it is a futile effort by the terrorists to reinitiate talks, and the only option for them is to submit to the authority of the Pakistani state or face defeat.
COAS also warned that propaganda against the Armed Forces of Pakistan by inimical forces will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
In conclusion, he paid tribute to the brave tribesmen, officers, and soldiers of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, Levies, Khasadars, and Police, vowing that their sacrifices will not be in vain, and complete peace will be restored to Pakistan, by the will of Allah.
