ISLAMABAD (Staff Reporter) PTA held a meeting with religious scholars to promote safe and responsible use of social media/internet. An important step was taken to promote safe and responsible use of the Internet through a meeting with scholars. The event held today was a forerunner of a joint effort between PTA and religious leaders in view of the challenges of social media and the Internet while promoting a digital environment compatible with cultural and religious values. Chairman Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Chairman of Ravit Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad and Maulana Tariq Jameel, including scholars of different schools of thought participated. Senior officers of PTA were also present on the occasion. The function started with the opening remarks of Director General, Web Analyses Division (WDAD) who highlighted this important initiative of PTA. Chairman PTA, Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman addressed the audience on the occasion and highlighted the important role of religious scholars in guiding the public towards ethical and responsible use of the Internet. He emphasized that more positive results can be achieved if scholars collaborate with PTA through their platforms. The meeting provided a broad platform for discussion and dialogue to the participants. . Among the important points of the meeting, youths were emphasized on the responsible use of social media and the Internet, especially the important role of parents in the education of their children. Acknowledging the seriousness of online threats such as anti-state, insulting and hate speech, it was emphasized that they should be identified and addressed by the State, Judiciary, PTA, PEMRA and FIA. It is everyone’s responsibility at the individual level. Scholars on this occasion appreciated the ambitions and efforts of PTA in promoting safe and responsible use of the Internet and assured the regulator of its full cooperation and support. . It should be noted that this meeting is the first link in the chain of awareness among the public through scholars.
