The announcement outlined the temporary closure of border crossings with Afghanistan and Iran, effective on the day of the elections, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of the electoral process.

According to the statement, both cargo and pedestrian movements across the borders will be halted during this period. The decision to suspend normal operations aims to mitigate potential security risks and maintain stability during the crucial electoral event.

The closure is set to commence on 8th February 2024 and will remain in effect throughout the duration of the elections. However, normal operations are expected to resume promptly on 9th February 2024, following the conclusion of the electoral process.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that the temporary closure of the border crossings is a proactive measure aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring the safety of citizens. Authorities urge all stakeholders to cooperate and adhere to the established security protocols during this period.

Further updates and developments regarding the security arrangements for the general elections are anticipated to be communicated through official channels, as the government remains committed to upholding transparency and security throughout the electoral process.
