Dateline Report
ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, Mohammad Ali Randhawa, a distinguished BS-20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), has been released by the Punjab government to assume pivotal administrative positions in Islamabad. Randhawa, known for his efficiency and integrity, is set to fill either the role of Chief Commissioner of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) or Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), according to sources within the Ministry of Interior.
Randhawa’s extensive career highlights his exceptional service record across federal and provincial administrations. Having served as Assistant Commissioner in Islamabad during various regimes and as Principal Staff Officer to former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he has consistently demonstrated dedication and effectiveness in his roles.
His commendable performance during the Covid-19 lockdown earned him accolades from the previous PTI government, further solidifying his reputation as a capable administrator. However, his potential appointment is not devoid of controversy, as past friction between federal and provincial authorities over similar appointments may resurface.
Despite challenges, Randhawa’s close association with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi underscores his perceived loyalty and trustworthiness within government circles. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s previous endorsement of Randhawa for key positions in Islamabad highlights his stature as a strong contender.
With Randhawa’s reputation for combating corruption and nepotism, his potential appointment signifies a potential shift in the governance landscape of the capital. As Islamabad awaits the arrival of this highly dedicated officer, his tenure promises to bring efficiency and accountability to key administrative roles, shaping the future trajectory of the capital’s development.
