islamabad:The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in various areas including joint research and development, curriculum development for ICT subjects, academia-industry linkages and preventing misuse of social media and increasing awareness regarding its effective use in the higher education sector. The MoU was signed by Director Admin HEC Tariq Iqbal and Director Strategy and Development PTA Ikramul Haque. The ceremony was attended by Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman PTA Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Executive Director HEC Dr. Zia-ul-Qayyum and other officials from both sides. Under the MoU, both parties will make progress in preventing misuse of social media by the younger generation. In addition, efforts will be made to equip the youth with opportunities for constructive use of social media and modern internet technologies. Both sides agreed to create synergy that would bridge the communication gap, enable access to knowledge and enhance the quality of higher education. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said that HEC will make every effort to spread awareness about the effective use of media among students and other stakeholders in the higher education sector.
