Islamabad: Rice Variety Evaluation Committee (VEC) meeting was held at PakistanAgricultural Research Council (PARC) Headquarters in Islamabad on Tuesday the 16th August,2022. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf, National Coordinator (Rice) presented the working paper for thesixty-two rice hybrids/varieties.
The representatives of national and multinational seed companiesincluding Seed Association of Pakistan, Crop Life Pakistan, Pakistan Hi-tech Hybrid SeedAssociation and federal and provincial research institutes attended the meeting.
Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali, Chairman, PARC while addressing to the participants highlightedthe role of private and public sector in research and development of rice in the country. Heemphasized the importance of quality seed for enhancing the productivity and profitability offarmers and asked the seed companies for making efforts to provide high quality of rice to farmersin Pakistan.Dr. Imtiaz Hussain, Chairman VEC / Member Plant Sciences Division PARC presided over thevariety evaluation committee meeting and informed participants that PARC is committed toperform its role in variety evaluation in transparent manner in collaboration with NationalAgricultural Research System. The VEC recommended nine rice hybrids and one long grainvariety for commercial cultivation in the country.
Representatives of seed companies appreciatedthe role of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council for its role in testing of rice hybrids/varieties inPakistan for the benefits of farmers as well as rice sector in Pakistan.-PR
