Lahore:An anti-crime review meeting was held at the Central Police Office under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar. The meeting focused on reviewing crime control, law and order, and the security situation in the Gujranwala Region. RPO Gujranwala Tayyab Hafeez Cheema, CPO Muhammad Ayaz Saleem, and the relevant DPOs participated in the meeting via video link.
IG Punjab directed the officers to enhance the security of police stations, police offices, and sensitive buildings in light of recent terrorist incidents. He expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the Gujranwala Region regarding the arrest of wanted criminals and recovery rates. He instructed the officers to expedite preventive actions in murder cases related to old enmities. IG Punjab emphasized the importance of registering serious criminals in official records and taking effective measures for their arrests. He further instructed officers to focus on the recovery of missing women and children and resolving cases of sexual assault. A coordinated action plan must be implemented to curb incidents of robbery, abduction, and motorcycle and vehicle thefts.
IG Punjab commended DPO Narowal Malik Naveed for his excellent performance in various areas and advised RPOs and DPOs to personally contact complainants to resolve any issues received from the Chief Minister’s Office. Regarding the investigation of sexual assault cases under the Anti-Rape Act, IG Punjab instructed that trained officers from the Special Sexual Offenders Investigation Unit (SSOIU) should handle such cases, instead of regular police officers. He also directed that convicted sex offenders released from prisons should be registered in the Sexual Offender Register (SOR) for surveillance.
Dr. Usman Anwar stressed that the cleanliness, maintenance, and functional systems of Special Initiative Police Stations should be ensured. He also emphasized the need for regular inspection and maintenance of police vehicles, motorcycles, weapons, and logistics. He called for the timely completion of the construction of Smart Police Stations and Safe Cities. IG Punjab also directed further improvements in community policing and relations with public representatives. The meeting was attended by Additional IG Operations Punjab Shahzada Sultan, Additional IG Investigation Azhar Akram, DIG Operations Punjab Waqas Nazir, AIG Operations, and AIG Monitoring.
