LAHORE: Lahore Police have arrested more than 2,700 individuals involved in aerial firing so far this year, as part of an ongoing crackdown on the dangerous practice.According to a spokesperson for Lahore Police, a total of 1,273 cases have been registered against individuals accused of aerial firing. The arrests were made as part of a citywide crackdown to curb the illegal use of firearms, particularly during celebrations.Breakdown of arrests by police divisions revealed that 827 suspects were apprehended in Cantt Division, 498 in Saddar, and 447 in Model Town.Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore, Bilal Siddique Kamyana, reiterated the department’s policy of zero tolerance towards aerial firing. “Aerial firing is a life-threatening act. Those involved will be dealt with strictly and put behind bars,” he said.
The CCPO further directed police officials to accelerate operations against aerial firing, illegal display of weapons, and the so-called “Dala culture.”Station House Officers (SHOs) have been instructed to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on aerial firing in their respective areas.The CCPO urged religious scholars, teachers, and media representatives to play an active role in raising public awareness about the dangers associated with aerial firing. Action will also be taken against individuals who promote or glorify aerial firing on social media platforms, said Kamyana.He called on citizens to respect the law and report any incidents of aerial firing to the nearest police station or by dialing the police emergency helpline 15.
