ISLAMABAD:Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa Sunday directed a comprehensive survey of all residential and commercial buildings in Islamabad to evaluate fire safety arrangements and emergency preparedness.Under the directive, notices are being issued to owners of all private and public residential and commercial properties, while inspections of buildings across the capital are being initiated. The chairman stressed that every residential and commercial building must ensure the availability of proper emergency exits in case of fire or electrical short circuits.Private building owners have been instructed to construct emergency exits through certified emergency exit consultants, whereas emergency exits in public buildings will be developed in consultation with the CDA.Chairman Randhawa has further directed that the survey of all private and public buildings be completed and a detailed report submitted within one month. Buildings identified as sensitive will also undergo elevation assessments. On the chairman’s instructions, the CDA’s Building Control Directorate has constituted special teams to carry out the inspections.
