ISLAMABAD: During the holy month of Ramazan, the district administration in Islamabad has launched an operation against beggars, resulting in the detention of more than 40 individuals.The action was taken on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, with special teams deployed across the city to identify and remove beggars from public places, said the spokesman of ICT administration here.According to officials, the operation is aimed at maintaining order during Ramazan, when markets, mosques, and roads witness an increase in public movement. Special teams of the district administration are conducting checks at busy intersections, shopping areas, and near worship places to spot individuals involved in begging.Officials said that more than 40 beggars were taken into custody during the ongoing drive and shifted to police lock-ups. The administration stated that the campaign will continue throughout Ramazan to discourage professional begging and ensure smooth movement for citizens.The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has instructed field officers to remain active and ensure strict monitoring in their respective areas. Authorities have also been directed to coordinate with relevant departments to verify the background of those detained and take action according to the law.The administration noted that some of the detained individuals were reportedly involved in organized begging, while others were found repeatedly at the same locations. Officials said that data of the detained beggars is being collected to prevent their return to the streets after release.The district administration has urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities and avoid giving money to beggars. Officials believe public cooperation is essential to make the campaign effective. The administration also advised people to report begging activities to local authorities so timely action can be taken.
