ISLAMABAD, Sep 26 (NNI): The Senate started its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Monday afternoon with Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in the chair.
The House offered fateha for the departed souls of the flood victims. The lawmakers also prayed for the martyrs of security personnel, who laid down their lives in defence of the country.
Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar has urged the lawmakers to bring clarity over a bill relating to transgender persons in light of Islamic injunctions and provisions of the Constitution.
He said this while responding to “The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) (Amendment) Bill, 2022” moved by Fawzia Arshad.
The Law Minister said it is a sensitive matter and we should take a decision in light of the Shariah and the Constitution.
Besides, the Chair also referred “The Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2022”, “The Al-Ala University Bill, 2022”, “The Federal Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2022” “The Criminal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2022” and “The Criminal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021” to the standing committees concern.
The House also passed two bills. These include “The Chairman and Speaker (Salaries, Allowances and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2022”and “[The Access to the Media (Deaf) Persons Bill, 2022”.
The Senate approved consideration of “The Dyslexia Special Measures Bill, 2020”, in a joint sitting of the House.
Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar has said the incumbent coalition government believes in supremacy of law and the Constitution and will not resort to using negative tactics of coercion and intimidation to suppress dissent.
He was responding to a motion moved by Leader of the Opposition Shahzad Waseem and others regarding FIA’s raid on PTI leader Saifullah Khan Nyazee and other matters.
The Law Minister said that a committee of the House had been formed to look into the matter, which had sought a report from the FIA in that regard.
