ISLAMABAD, Oct 13 (NNI): The National Assembly on Thursday passed the resolution to restore the name of Islamabad International Airport as Benazir Bhutto International Airport with the majority of votes.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker Nawabzada Iftikhar Ali Khan moved the resolution in the Assembly session.
The resolution said that the previous government had changed the name of Benazir Bhutto International Airport to Islamabad International Airport.
The airport was named Benazir Bhutto International Airport to pay homage to the sacrifices of the Bhutto family, the resolution said adding that the name of Islamabad International Airport should be restored to Benazir Bhutto International Airport.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) member Kishore Zahra opposed the resolution and said that as a woman leader they respect Benazir Bhutto but they had requested to rename Islamabad Airport after Liaquat Ali Khan as he was second to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. NNI
