Pakistani Foreign Minister Visits Iraq to Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Economic Cooperation

BAGHDAD: In a joint press stakeout held in Iraq, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister expressed his pleasure at visiting the brotherly nation and thanked his counterpart, Dr. Fuad Hussein, for extending the invitation. The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of reinvigorating the fraternal ties between the two countries and building them on a foundation of mutual respect, interests, and institutional linkages.

Highlighting the desire to transform bilateral relations into mutually beneficial economic ties, the Foreign Minister announced the signing of bilateral agreements during his visit, focusing on strengthening collaboration in various fields. He acknowledged the resilience, steadfastness, and determination displayed by both nations in combating terrorism and expressed solidarity with Iraq’s achievements in this regard.

The Foreign Minister underscored the strong defense cooperation between Pakistan and Iraq, contributing to shared objectives of peace, stability, and security. He emphasized the need to rebuild and transform both countries into progressive nation-states.

The announcement of the opening of a Pakistani Consulate in Najaf and the signing of an MoU on Zaireen (pilgrim) hospitality highlighted the efforts to facilitate Pakistani pilgrims visiting Iraq. Additionally, the Foreign Minister revealed plans for a Pakistani Pilgrim Center in Kerbala, which would further support Pakistani Zaireen.

The Foreign Minister expressed his hope that the visit would enhance people-to-people contacts, particularly between the private sector, media, academia, and researchers. He emphasized the renowned efficiency, skill set, and determination of the Pakistani workforce and highlighted the potential for collaboration in the interest of sustainable development in both countries.

Recognizing the significance of the holy shrines in Iraq for the Pakistani people, the Foreign Minister expressed optimism about increasing opportunities for Pakistanis to visit these sacred places. He concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to being Iraq’s close friend and partner in achieving peace, prosperity, growth, and development.

The visit of the Pakistani Foreign Minister to Iraq signifies a renewed commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and foster economic cooperation between the two nations. This visit aims to deepen collaboration in various sectors, enhance people-to-people contacts, and provide facilitation to Pakistani pilgrims visiting Iraq’s holy shrines.
