Dateline Report
ISLAMABAD: easypaisa, Pakistan’s leading digital financial services platforms, has filed a formal complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against individuals spreading false and misleading information on social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. The fake news claims that easypaisa accounts will be blocked on 30th September 2024, urging account holders to withdraw their funds, which is completely false.

The complaint was lodged by easypaisa’s Head of Litigation, Mr. Naresh Kumar Aruwani, who stated that the frivolous rumors are creating unnecessary panic among customers and damaging the company’s reputation. easypaisa reassured the public that this is a completely baseless rumour, and all accounts will continue to function as usual.

Furthermore, easypaisa’s Legal Counsel for the North Region Mr. Bilal Mustafa confirmed that a similar complaint has been registered at Federal Investiagtion Agnecy Cyber Wing Islamabad. The FIA, Islamabad has initiated action by reaching out to NADRA for facial recognition of the accused individuals and has also directed the PTA to block the relevant social media links that are associated with the defamatory content.

The spreading of false information via social media platforms is a violation of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, and those found responsible may face severe penalties. easypaisa urges users to rely only on official sources for news and updates regarding its services.
