ISLAMABAD: The residents of a residential colony near the 132KV Grid Station Bahatar More, Taxila are living in fear as substandard construction and negligence by the Islamabad Electric Supply Company’s (IESCO) Power Division and a contractor have put their lives at risk.
Four years ago, as per the documents available disclosed that IESCO’s Power Division undertook the construction of four flats in the residential colony at a cost of over Rs.70 million. However, the contractor used faulty materials during the construction, leading to cracks in the walls and an unstable roof, creating potential hazards for the residents.
Despite written requests submitted to the Director and Additional Chief Engineer of IESCO, no action has been taken to address the issues or hold those responsible accountable. The residents expressed concern over the risks posed to their families due to the deteriorating conditions of the flats.
The Additional Chief Engineer of the residents raised concerns, but the situation remains unresolved, and no preventive measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the residents.
“The lives of four families are still at risk, and there’s been no response from the contractor or the responsible authorities,” said a concerned resident.
The potential dangers of living in these substandard flats have become evident, and the residents fear a major accident could occur at any time, leading to disastrous consequences.
The residents have also reached out to the Power Secretary, urging immediate action to address the matter and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the affected families.
As the situation remains dire, the residents’ plea for action and accountability remains unanswered, leaving them living in uncertainty and fear for their lives. Authorities are urged to take immediate action and initiate a comprehensive investigation to rectify the situation and ensure the safety of the affected residents.
